Brent became involved as a museum volunteer for The Friends’ Junior Sailing Program many years ago, bringing with him 25 years of experience in the boating industry.

He was hired by The Friends in 2001 as Boat Program Coordinator, overseeing the programs of The Friends and developing additional programming. In April of 2003 Brent was appointed Executive Director of The Friends of the Museum, NC Maritime Museum, Inc. He manages the Friends of the Museum office, oversees membership and development staff, and coordinates and Board and Committee activities. In addition he oversees Friends owned properties, vessels, and equipment in support of the museum and museum programming. 

Valerie Peterson

Valerie Peterson has been an active member of our community since moving here from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her husband and four children 8 years ago. Living on the coast had always been a dream of the Peterson family, and they were thrilled when Valerie’s husband’s job brought him to Cherry Point. Finding the quaint little “fishing village” of Beaufort has been a dream come true for the Petersons.

Valerie has a background in business, management, and education. She has spent years working with area schools developing programs and working in local schools educating our children. She has worked closely with area businesses serving as board member and committee chair. Valerie was the first female President of the Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary Club.

Valerie came onboard last summer and her Friends of the Museum responsibilities include: Office management and the day to day operations within, representative of The Friends and the museum before a variety of individuals and groups providing information concerning membership, upcoming events, fund raising activities, volunteer opportunities and the development of new programs and opportunities’ for prospective donors.

Candy Rogers

– Membership Administrative Support

Ms. Rogers has been the Friends of the Museum Membership Coordinator since 2001. She is a long time county resident and has been a member of local business community over 30 years.

Candy will be working just one day a week as of the New Year (2007) helping to orient and train the new staff. She will assure communication with, and support of, the Friends membership, and help with special events and fund-raising.
